Friday Faves

Here are some of my favorites from this week! Hope they encourage you as you serve and lead your little ones to love God and love others!

  1. Raising Grateful Kids in an Entitled World by Kristen Welch

This book… oh my… soooo good and I’m only halfway through it! I don’t usually share or recommend a book when I haven’t read to the end, but what I’ve read this week has been so very powerful. I pray that you will take time to read this and be reminded of our role as parents.

2.  Parents, This is what your Children Need Most – a video from Radical.Net (David Platt).

This is quite convicting and is a great reminder that more than anything, more than great skills on the ball field or in the dance studio – our children need to be pointed to Christ and to be taught about Christ!

3. How the gospel Shapes our Children – an article on IMB.org (International Mission Board) Just another simple yet powerful reminder from JD Grear, pastor of Summit Church in NC, about the power of the gospel in parenting and marriage.

4. St. Patrick’s Passion for Missions – an article on IMB.org. I have LOVED learning about St. Patrick in prep for our Irish Meal and St. Patrick’s Day coming up. Also, don’t forget to snap a pic of your family international meal and post in our On Mission Moms Facebook group – a little fun giveaway is coming! If you missed the recipe ideas, click here!

5. Future World Travelers by Zulily –  I love Zulily and can sometimes find some pretty great deals! They have all kinds of globes, maps, puzzles and more to get our little ones thinking and seeing the world right now!  (This is a time sensitive event that ends on Saturday, March 10th – sorry if you miss it! I’m also not endorsing Zulily, just want to share a fun resource where you can get some pretty cheap maps and globes!)

What resources have you come across this week that can encourage us as mamas to lead our littles ones to love God and love others?

Friday Faves

I came across so many good resources, articles, and reminders this week! It was hard to choose what to share…

I have to start with this convicting article,  but as one of my dear and most honest friend tells me often, “put your big girl pants on!”

  1. Cultivating a Heart for Missions:  Radical · Blog · Cultivating a Heart for Missions in our Kids

This…. It all starts with us! Are you excited about sharing Jesus with your friends? Do you talk about Jesus and missions in your home?  Is there a map in your home and do you talk about the world around us? Do you fix “weird” food? Do you stop and think of others and invite them in to your world? If we aren’t modeling missions, chances are our children won’t grasp hold of it either… that’s convicting to the core…

So in light of that….

2. Who doesn’t LOVE all things maps and globes… Here are some fun ways to use them in your decor at home!   There are other ideas over on our On Mission Moms Pinterest Page too!

3. You can also begin to introduce yummy food from all around the world to your little ones too. One of my FAVORITE dishes from my time in North Africa was Chicken Tagine and Zaalok.  Hint, Hint… I noticed eggplant was super cheap last week in our new grocery store, Lidl… gosh, I love that place!

I’ll be sharing more international recipes to introduce to your family too! We love to cook crazy things around our house and yes, our girls LOVE most of it… not all…

4. Missional Women Website & App – I’m still discovering all the fun things this website and app has to offer! I’m also excited about starting their 31 Days of Evangelism focus because if I’m being completely honest, I need to reset my heart and refocus my mind and my words on sharing Jesus more and more. I’m excited about being intentional over these next 31 days to break down barriers and engage in gospel conversations. Who have you shared Jesus with this past week? Do you have five friends who you are engaging in gospel conversations?

What resources or articles have you seen this week? Share them over on our On Mission Moms facebook page so that we can learn and encourage one another this week!

Idea: Saving for Going

When we were expecting our first little one, I began to pray for his or her very first mission trip, and began to look for ways to prepare as a parent for sending our child on their first trip. Of course I also pray for salvation and for other important discipleship essentials too; but I want to be intentional about preparing and guiding our children to be on mission. And I want to be prepared!! I don’t want to be caught off guard when in 15 years (when Ivey will be 18) she comes to her daddy and I and asks us to go somewhere international to share Jesus. It can be expensive if you haven’t prepared!

I also have a really silly love for all things “globes” and so I began to hunt for the perfect vintage world bank that we could begin to use for our little one to save money in. Now anytime Ivey gets any money, whether its change that she swipes from her Nana’s house or money that we give her for cleaning the table after dinner, or sweet friends who give her little gifts (you know who you are!) it goes in her world bank. She’s got quite the little stash going…As she gets older, we will explain what that money is for and how we pray that she will use it. She can then decide what future money she wants to put in to her world bank and what money she wants to spend on little toys that really have no eternal kingdom purpose (that’s just my opinion… hahaha)

How are you expecting, planning, and preparing to send your children on mission? Have you opened up a savings account? Will you help pay for them to go on their first mission trip? There are lots of ways to prepare even now with our littles!  As mama’s lets be diligent to pray, plan, and prepare and trust that God will call and send them!
